ON THE COUNT OF THREE

Saying the imprint,
the survival of the gesture as an apparition,
can be repeated, multiplied,
as a practice that mimics our desire for reproduction,
and even denied, making a marvel of an act of resistance.
Make it unique, by choice, by will.
What you see is what you have, what you can achieve, there is no more.
Define the edges, weaving subtle contrasts on masses of color.
Matter is transformed into allusion,
a floating weight among the tensions of intricate patterns
that mimic volumes in the air of the paper,
as phantoms that recall their monolithic vocation.
Distended and disjointed, they lack the support of the world:
the imprint itself comes to conjure it,
sublimating them in the lightness of the object stripped of its attributes.
The body becomes mass as contour, it recognizes itself and does not,
it pulsates as abstraction,
denied and yet ready to be, a body, a mountain, a building,
held in suspense, beyond the shadow it becomes,
ready, despite everything, on the count of three,
to fall.
